 Musical Director

The Greater Western Community Band is happy to announce the appointment of Mr. Angus Charlton and wishes him a long and successful association with the Band.

Angus studied tuba at the Australian National University and has performed as a professional Tubist with the Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane Symphony Orchestras as well as serving as a Musician in the Australian Army Band. Musical highlights have included playing on Pavarotti’s Australian tour and at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2012.

Angus’s first engagement as a conductor was with the Canberra Community Orchestra playing Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor and the tone poem ‘Tamara’ by Balakirev. An Army posting to Brisbane led to working as an Instrumental Music Teacher and Conductor with Primary and High School bands.

Angus moved to Melton in 2022 to work as a Performing Arts teacher with the new Strathtulloh Primary School. Other interests include writing children’s songs (YouTube channel ‘Doin’ a Shoe Up’), mountain-biking (as much as that is possible in Melton), running, and coaxing his veges to grow in the back garden.
